Eduard Strauss (1835-1916) Mit Dampf, Polka schnell op.70 / With Steam, Polka fast
1837 fuhr der erst Eisenbahnzug in der k.k. Monarchie von Floridsdorf nach Deutsch Wagram. Ein neues Zeitalter hatte damit begonnen, die Eisenbahn wurde zu einem der Symbole für die technische Entwicklung des vorigen Jahrhunderts. Bald beflügelte das Dampfross die Phantasie der Künstler und namentlich der Musiker. Dass auch die Familie Strauß in den Bann der neuen Erfindung gezogen wurde, zeigte sich bei Vater Johann Strauss wie auch bei seinen Söhnen.
Nach „Bahn frei!“ hat sich Eduard Strauß noch einmal dem Thema Eisenbahn musikalisch gewidmet, so gibt es von ihm eine 1872 veröffentliche Schnellpolka „Mit Dampf“, sein opus 70. Die Schnellpolks wird wohl als musikalische Huldigung für die damals schon bestens eingeführte Eisenbahn zu verstehen sein.

After “Train clear!” Eduard Strauss once again devoted himself musically to the subject of the railroad. He published a Polka fast „With Steam”, his opus 70. „With Steam” will probably be understood as a musical homage to the railroad, which was already well established at the time.
