Mozarts „Ein musikalischer Spaß“ entstand 1787. Die Beinamen „Dorfmusikantensextett“ und „Bauernsinfonie“ sind etwas irreführend, denn die Zielscheibe des Spaßes sind in erster Linie dilettierende Komponisten, denen es sowohl an technischer Fertigkeit als auch an Einfällen mangelt und von denen Mozart sicherlich viele kannte. Die Tempoangabe für den zweiten Satz lautet Menuetto. An einer Stelle „verspielen“ sich die Hörner (sie „transponieren falsch“); statt den vorgesehenen Terzen erklingen heftige Dissonanzen. Wichtigstes Thema im Trio ist die B-Dur-Tonleiter über zwei Oktaven. Die originale Besetzung ist für Streicher (2 Violinen, Viola, Bass) und zwei Hörner ausgelegt. Unsere Besetzung für Bläserquintett setzt das Stück ebenso spaßig um.
Mozart’s “A Musical Fun” was written in 1787. The nicknames “Village Musicians’ Sextet” and “Peasant Symphony” are somewhat misleading, because the targets of the fun are primarily dilettante composers who lack both technical skill and ideas and from whom Mozart certainly knew many. The tempo indication for the second movement is Menuetto. At one point, the horns play incorrectly (they “transpose wrong”); instead of thirds, violent dissonances sound. The most important theme in the trio is the B flat major scale over two octaves. The original scoring is for strings (2 violins, viola, bass) and two horns. Our instrumentation for wind quintet implements the piece just as amusingly.
