Ludwig van Beethoven schrieb das Duo für zwei Flöten WoO 26 für seinen Bonner Freund Johann Martin Degenhart (1768–1800), der als Jurist in der Verwaltung des kurkölnischen Hofes tätig war. Vermutlich spielte Degenhart selbst Flöte, sodass es auch sein könnte, dass er die Komposition in Auftrag gegeben hat. Näheres ist leider nicht bekannt. Die Komposition entstand im August 1792. Beethoven selbst versah die autographe Partitur am Kopf der ersten Seite mit der Angabe: für Freund Degenharth von L. v. Beethoven. | 1792. Die Komposition wurde zu Beethovens Lebzeiten weder abgeschrieben noch gedruckt, sodass die autographe Partitur die einzige Quelle darstellt. Im Original ist das Duo für 2 Flöten geschrieben, kann aber mit jeden beliebigen Holzblasinstrument gespielt werden.
Ludwig van Beethoven wrote the Duo for two flutes WoO 26 for his Bonn friend Johann Martin Degenhart (1768–1800), who worked as a lawyer in the administration of the Electoral Court of Cologne. Degenhart probably played the flute himself, so it could also be that he commissioned the composition. Unfortunately, no further details are known. The composition was composed in August 1792. Beethoven himself wrote the autograph score at the top of the first page: for friend Degenharth von L. v. Beethoven. | 1792. The composition was neither copied nor printed during Beethoven’s lifetime, so the autograph score is the only source. The duo was originally written for 2 flutes, but can be played with any other woodwind instrument.
