Giovanni Gastoldi (um 1550-1622) Amor vittorioso
Giovanni Gastoldi war ein italienischer Sänger und Komponist der Spätrenaissance und des Frühbarock. In Mantua beteiligte er sich an Kompositionen des vom Herzog Guglielmo Gonzaga (der sich auch selber als Komponist betätigte) gewünschten Repertoires. 1588 erhielt Gastoldi die Anstellung eines Kapellmeisters an S. Barbara in Mantua und hatte dieses Amt bis zu seinem Tode inne. Neben der Kirchenmusik komponierte er zahlreiche bedeutende weltliche Werke für den Bedarf am Hofe des seit 1588 regierenden Fürsten Vincenzo I. Gonzaga, an dem zu dieser Zeit bedeutende Komponisten wie der junge Claudio Monteverdi wirkten. Bekannt wurde Gastoldi vor allem durch seine Balletti und Madrigalkomödien (Vorläufer der Oper), die bereits im 17. Jahrhundert in vielen Städten Europas als Nachdrucke erschienen. Giovanni Gastoldi was an Italian singer and composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. In Mantua, he participated in composing the repertoire requested by Duke Guglielmo Gonzaga (who was also a composer himself). In 1588 Gastoldi was appointed conductor at S. Barbara in Mantua and held this position until his death. In addition to church music, he composed numerous important secular works for the needs of the court of Prince Vincenzo I Gonzaga, who had ruled since 1588. Important composers such as the young Claudio Monteverdi were working at the court at that time. Gastoldi became known above all for his ballets and madrigal comedies (precursors of opera), which appeared as reprints in many European cities as early as the 17th century.
