Johann Strauss I (1804-1849) Brünner National Garde Marsch, op. 231 Brno National Guard March
Der Titel dieses Marsches wurde von der Strauss-Familie zweimal verwendet. Zunächst kompo- nierte Johann Strauss I (Vater) einen Marsch mit diesem Titel (op. 231). Dieses Werk wurde an- lässlich eines Besuchs der Brünner Nationalgarde in Wien am 30. Juli 1848 gespielt. Im Gegenzug reiste der jüngere Johann Strauss mit einer Abordnung der Nationalgarde von Wien nach Brünn, wo er nun seinen gleichnamigen Marsch (op. 58) als Symbol des Zusammenhalts zwischen Wien und Brünn aufführte. Sowohl Strauss Vater als auch Strauss Sohn schrieben also im Sommer 1848 je einen Marsch mit dem gleichen Titel. Historisch gesehen fanden diese Ereignisse vor dem Hintergrund der Revolution von 1848 statt.
The title of this march was used twice by the Strauss family. Johann Strauss I (father) first com- posed a march with this title (op. 231). This work was performed during a visit of the Brno National Guard to Vienna on July 30, 1848. In return, the younger Johann Strauss traveled from Vienna to Brno with a delegation of the National Guard, where he now performed his eponymous march (op. 58) as a symbol of solidarity between Vienna and Brno. In the summer of 1848 both Strauss father and Strauss son wrote a march with the same title. Historically, these events took place against the backdrop of the 1848 Revolution.
