Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) Can-Can aus Orpheus in der Unterwelt
Jacques Offenbach, geboren in Köln, gestorben in Paris, komponierte die Musik zu der Opéra bouffe Orpheus in der Unterwelt (Orphée aux Enfers). Die Erstaufführung fand 1858 in Paris statt und war sehr erfolgreich und ließ Offenbach in ganz Europa populär werden. Mit diesem Stück machte er sich über die Gesellschaft des zweiten Kaiserreiches lustig. Das bekannteste Musikstück ist der sogenannte Höllen-Can-Can (im Original Galop infernal). Der Can-Can ist ein schneller französischer Tanz im 2/4 Takt, der um das Jahr 1830 in Paris entstand. Offenbachs Can-Can ist ein Ohrwurm, der sehr bekannt ist und häufig separat aufgeführt wird. Im Pariser Moulin Rouge gehört der er bis heute zu den Attraktionen.

The most famous piece of music is the so-called Hell Can-Can (originally Galop infernal). The Can-Can is a fast French dance in 2/4 time that originated in Paris around 1830. Offenbach’s Can-Can is a catchy tune that is very well known and is often performed separately. It is still one of the attractions at the Moulin Rouge in Paris today.
