Die Entführung aus dem Serail (KV 384) ist ein Singspielvon Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, dessen Uraufführung 1782 im Burgtheater zu Wien unter der Leitung des Komponisten stattfand. Die Komposition enthält in der Ouverture Anklänge an die „türkische Musik“, wie man sie sich im 18. Jahrhundert vorstellte. Die Erweiterung des Orchesters der Wiener Klassik um die Instrumente wie Becken, Große Trommel („Türkische Trommel“), Piccoloflöte und Triangel entspricht dem Instrumentarium der Janitscharenmusik. Wenn Mozart von der „türkischen Musik“ sprach, so handelte es sich dabei immer um diese Instrumente. „Die Sinfonie, den Chor im ersten ackt, und den schluß Chor werde ich mit türckischer Musick machen“ (Brief an den Vater vom 1. August 1781). Mozart zeigt in der Ouvertüre eine große Modulierfreudigkeit, wobei der Dur-Moll-Wechsel eine besondere Rolle spielt. Mozart hat im „Marsch der Janitscharen“ in demselben Werk wie auch im „Türkischen Marsch“ (KV331) Aspekte der türkischen Musik eingesetzt.
The Abduction from the Seraglio (KV 384) is a Singspiel by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which premiered in 1782 at the Burgtheater in Vienna under the composer’s direction. The composition’s overture contains elements of “Turkish music,” as it was imagined in the 18th century. The expansion of the Viennese Classical orchestra to include instruments such as cymbals, bass drum (“Turkish drum”), piccolo and triangle corresponds to the instrumentation of Janissary music. When Mozart spoke of “Turkish music,” he was always referring to these instruments. “I will compose the symphony, the chorus in the first act, and the final chorus with Turkish music” (Letter to his father, August 1, 1781). In the overture, Mozart displays a great fondness for modulation, with the alternation between major and minor keys playing a particularly important role. Mozart incorporated aspects of Turkish music in the “March of the Janissaries” in the same work, as well as in the “Turkish March” (KV 331).
