Eduard Strauss (1835-1916) Die Hochquelle, Polka Mazur, op.114 / The high spring
Eduard Strauss war der jüngste Sohn von Johann Strauss (Vater) sowie Bruder von Johann Strauss (dem Walzerkönig) und Josef Strauss. Er war Dirigent der Strauss-Kapelle und Komponist der Polka Mazur Die Hochquelle anlässlich der Eröffnung der I. Wiener Hochquellenleitung und der Inbetriebnahme des Hochstrahlbrunnens am Schwarzenbergplatz zu Wien, der am 24. Oktober 1873 im Beisein von Kaiser Franz Joseph I. in Betrieb genommen. Aus Anlass der 150-Jahrfeier des Wiener Wassers hat Prof. Hackl diese Polka Mazur zu neuem Leben erweckt.
Die I. Wiener Hochquellenleitung war die erste Wasserversorgung von Wien mit einwandfreiem Trinkwasser. Gewonnen wird das Hochquellwasser aus Quellen im Rax- und Schneeberggebiet im südlichen Niederösterreich und in der Steiermark.
Eduard Strauss was the youngest son of Johann Strauss (father) and brother of Johann Strauss (the Waltz King) and Josef Strauss. He was conductor of the Strauss Orchestra and composer of the Polka Mazur Die Hochquelle on the occasion of the opening of the first Vienna high spring pipeline and the commissioning of the high jet fountain on Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna, which was put into operation on October 24, 1873 in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Viennese water, Prof. Hackl brought this Polka Mazur to new life.
The 1st Viennese mountain spring line was the first water supply of Vienna with perfect drinking water. The mountain spring water is obtained from springs in the Rax and Schneeberg areas in southern Lower Austria and Styria.
