Eugene Gigout (1844-1925) Grand Choeur Dialogue for organ and brass
Die erste musikalische Ausbildung des französischen Organisten und Komponisten Eugéne Gigout erfolgte im Knabenchor an der Kathedrale von Nancy. 1857 erhielt er Unterricht an der École Niedermeyer u.a. bei Camille Saint-Saens. Nach einer umfassenden Ausbildung in Gregorianik und Orgelmusik machte Gigout den Abschluss und blieb als Lehrer an der École Niedermeyer. Zu seinen Schülern gehörten Gabriel Fauré, Léon Boëllmann, Albert Roussel u.a. 1863 wurde Gigout zum Organisten der Pariser Pfarrkirche Saint-Augustin ernannt, eine Stelle die er bis zu seinem Tod innehaben sollte. Dort machte er sich schnell einen Namen als Improvisator und Virtuose auf seinem Instrument. Gigout komponierte hauptsächlich für Orgel. In der vorliegenden Grand Choeur Dialogue Bearbeitung wurde chœur 2 den Blechbläsern zugewiesen, während chœur 1 die Orgel ausführt; im Finale entfalten sich Orgel und Blechbläser zu gigantischer Größe.
French organist and composer Eugéne Gigout received his first musical training in the boys’ choir at Nancy Cathedral. In 1857 he took lessons at the École Niedermeyer with Camille Saint-Saens, among others. After extensive training in Gregorian chant and organ music, Gigout graduated and stayed on as a teacher at the École Niedermeyer. His students included Gabriel Fauré, Léon Boëllmann, Albert Roussel and others. In 1863, Gigout was appointed organist at the Parisian parish church of Saint-Augustin, a position he would hold until his death. There he quickly made a name for himself as an improviser and virtuoso on his instrument. Gigout composed mainly for organ. In the present Grand Choeur Dialogue arrangement, chorus 2 has been assigned to the brass, while chorus 1 performs the organ; in the finale, organ and brass unfold to gigantic proportions.
