Elias ist ein Oratorium von F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy über die Geschichte des biblischen Propheten Elias. Nachdem der Stoff Mendelssohn zehn Jahre beschäftigt hatte, wurde das Werk am 26. August 1846 beim Birmingham Music Festival uraufgeführt. Es zählt bis heute zu den bekanntesten Werken des Komponisten. Das Oratorium gab Mendelssohn Bartholdy die Möglichkeit zur Komposition von „recht dicken, starken, vollen Chören“, die reichlich mit Bläsern unterstützt werden. Die Nummer 35 ist ein Quartett mit Chor mit dem Text „Heilig ist Gott in Herrlichkeit! Sein Ruhm erfüllt die Himmel weit. Lobsinget, jubelt ihm. Hosanna“. In unserem Arrangement vereinigen sich Orgel und Blechbläsern zu einem idealen Klangerlebnis.
Elias is an oratorio by F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy about the story of the biblical prophet Elias. After occupying Mendelssohn for ten years, the work was first performed on August 26, 1846 at the Birmingham Music Festival. It is still one of the composer’s best-known works. The oratorio gave Mendelssohn Bartholdy the opportunity to compose “really thick, strong, full choirs”, which are generously supported by wind instruments. Number 35 is a quartet with chorus with the text “Holy is God in glory! His glory fills the heavens far. Sing praises, cheer him. Hosanna”.
