Josef Lanner (1801-1843) Jägers Lust, Jagd-Galopp op.82 / Hunter’s Lust, Hunting Gallop

Die Begeisterung des Adels für die Jagd schlug sich im 18. Jahrhundert auch in der Musik nieder. Jagdsinfonien und andere Musiken mit Jagdthematik waren ein gern gehörter musikalischer Effekt. „Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd“ (BWV 208), auch als „Jagdkantate“ bekannt, stammt von Johann Sebastian Bach. Haydns Symphonie Nr. 31 “mit dem Hornsignal” oder „auf dem Anstand“ und die Symphonie Nr. 73 “La Chasse” fanden am Hof von Eszterháza großen Anklang. Das Streichquartett KV 458 von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart erhielt seinen Beinamen „Jagdquartett“ wegen des Beginns des ersten Satzes mit einem Thema aus Dreiklängen im 6/8-Takt. “Le Rendez-Vous de Chasse“ von Gioacchino Rossini für Hornquartett ist eine zum Jagen auffordernden Musik. Franz Schubert hat auch Jagd-Lieder komponiert z.B. „Der Jäger“ in „Die Schöne Müllerin“. Im Wald und bei der Jagd spielt das Scherzo aus Bruckners Vierter Sinfonie wie auch die Jagdszene aus Smetanas “Moldau”. Carl Maria von Webers “Jägerchor“ aus dem „Freischütz“ ist das bekannteste Werk zum Thema Jagd. Die Jagd ist ein Motiv, das durch die Jahrhunderte immer wieder auftaucht, wie in der Schnellpolka „Auf der Jagd“ von Johann Strauss oder auch Lanners „Jagd-Galopp“.

The aristocracy’s enthusiasm for hunting was also reflected in music in the 18th century. Carl Maria von Weber’s “Jägerchor” from the “Freischütz” is the best-known work on the subject of hunting. The hunt is a motif that has appeared again and again over the centuries, as in Johann Strauss’ quick polka “Auf der Jagd” or Lanner’s “Jagd-Galopp”.
