Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) March for the Prince of Wales, Hob. VIII: 3

Alle Kompositionen von Joseph Haydn sind im sogenannten Hoboken-Verzeichnis vermerkt. In der Werkgruppe VIII sind 7 Märsche aufgelistet; davon als Hob.VIII: 3 der March for the Prince of Wales. Nachdem Haydns Dienstvertrag von seinem Dienstherrn Anton Fürst Esterházy gekündigt wurde, hatte der Meister ein Angebot nach London zu reisen, angenommen. In London erhielt Haydn 1791 die Einladung, beim jährlichen Dinner der Royal Society of Musicians teilzunehmen, wofür er sich mit dem March for the Royal Society of Musicians für Orchester bedankte (Hob.VIII: 3bis). 1792 bearbeitete Haydn diese Komposition für Bläser (2 Klarinetten, 2 Fagotte, Serpent, 2 Hörner und Trompete) mit dem Titel Marcia for the Prince of Wales. All of Joseph Haydn’s compositions are listed in the so-called Hoboken index. In work group VIII, 7 marches are listed; thereof as Hob.VIII: 3 the March for the Prince of Wales. After Haydn’s contract of employment was terminated by his employer Anton Prince Esterházy, the master accepted an offer to travel to London. In 1791 in London, Haydn received an invitation to attend the annual dinner of the Royal Society of Musicians, for which he expressed his thanks with the March for the Royal Society of Musicians for orchestra (Hob.VIII: 3bis). In 1792 Haydn arranged this composition for wind instruments (2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, serpent, 2 horns and trumpet) entitled Marcia for the Prince of Wales. Here is an arrangement for wind quintet.
