Die Entstehung der Österreichischen Bundeshymne geht auf die unmittelbare Zeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg zurück. Der staatliche Neuanfang sollte auch durch eine neue Bundeshymne dokumentiert werden.
Die Melodie schrieb man damals Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart zu. Neueren Forschungen zufolge dürfte sie jedoch von Johann Baptist Holzer stammen. Der ursprüngliche Text wurde von der Schriftstellerin Paula Preradović verfasst und ging aus einem Preisausschreiben der Bundesregierung als Sieger hervor. Mit Ministerratsbeschluss vom 25. Februar 1947 wurde die Bundeshymne offiziell eingeführt. Mit 1. Jänner 2012 ist die Bundeshymne der Republik Österreich als Bundesgesetz verankert.
The creation of the Austrian national anthem goes back to the time immediately after the Second World War. The new beginning of the state should also be documented by a new federal anthem. The melody was then attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. According to recent research, however, it should have come from Johann Baptist Holzer. The original text was written by the writer Paula Preradović and emerged as the winner in a competition run by the federal government. With the resolution of the Council of Ministers of February 25, 1947, the national anthem was officially introduced. As of January 1, 2012, the national anthem of the Republic of Austria is enshrined in federal law.
