Philipp Fahrbach, jr. (1843-1894) Saisonfreuden oder Die vier Jahreszeiten, Walzer / Seasonal joys or The four seasons, Waltz, op. 250
Jeder kennt die Walzerdynastie Strauss. Wenige kennen Philipp Fahrbach und dessen Familie. Rein zahlenmäßig übertrifft die Familie Fahrbach, was die Anzahl der Musik ausübenden Familien- mitglieder betrifft, die Familie Strauss. Und auch in der Anzahl der Werke können die Fahrbachs mit den Strauss‘ens mithalten: Über 700 Kompositionen gibt es von Philipp Fahrbach senior (1809-1867), über 500 von Philipp Fahrbach junior (1843-1894). Wie die Straussens umfassen die Fahrbachs das gesamte 19. Jahrhundert und bilden ebenso mit ihren Widmungen und Kompositi- onsanlässen „Geschichte in Musik“. Beide Fahrbachs sind wechselweise Dirigenten von Zivil- und von Militärkapellen und waren starke Konkurrenten der Strauss-Ära.
Fahrbachs Walzer „Saisonfreuden“ eröffnet mit No.1 dem Frühling – Vogelgezwitscher erfreuen das Herz der Städter. In No.2, dem Sommer, ertönen Blitz und Donner. Walzer No.3:„Juhu, der Wein ist da“ und Jagdfanfaren mit einem Schuss malen den Herbst. Mit Schellengeläut bringt ein Schlitten die Gesellschaft in einen Tanzsaal. Auf dem Heimweg erlischt allmählich das Schellenge- räusch.

Everyone knows the Strauss waltz dynasty. Few people know Philipp Fahrbach and his family. In terms of numbers, the Fahrbach family surpasses the Strauss family in terms of the number of family members who play music. The Fahrbach’s can also keep up with the Strauss‘ens in terms of the number of works: there are over 700 compositions by Philipp Fahrbach senior (1809-1867) and over 500 by Philipp Fahrbach junior (1843-1894). Like the Straussens, the Fahrbachs encompass the entire 19th century and also form “history in music” with their dedications and composition oc- casions. Both Fahrbachs are conductors of civil and military bands alternately and were strong competitors of the Strauss era.
Fahrbach’s waltz “Seasonal joys or The four seasons” opens with No.1 in spring – the twittering of birds will delight the heart of townspeople. In No.2, the summer, thunder and lightning sound. waltz No.3: “Juhu, the wine is here” and hunting fanfares with a shot paint the autumn. With the ringing of the bells, a sledge brings the company into a dance hall. On the way home the bells gradually go out.
