Daniel Speer (1636-1707) Sonata G-Dur für Trompete und 3 Posaunen Arrangements by Prof. Werner Hackl: Score and parts (trumpet and 3rd trombones)
Daniel Speer (geb. in Breslau, gest. in Göppingen) war Musiklehrer und Schulvorsteher mit Anstellungen in Württemberg, vor allem in Göppingen, wo er Mitglied der Stadtkapelle war. Die Sonata für Trompete und drei Posaunen stammt aus dem 1685 erschienenen Band „Neugebachene Taffelschnitz“. Die Sonata ist in der Originalbesetzung für Zink mit drei Posaunen verfasst und wurde damals in Stadtpfeiferkreisen aufgeführt. Der Zink wird heute durch eine Trompete ersetzt, die drei Posaunenstimmen, können heute aber auch von Horn, Tenor-Posaune und Bass-Posaune oder Tuba gespielt werden. Vom musikalischen Standpunkt sind die Sonaten von Daniel Speer sehr reizvoll und kommen beim Erklingen viel wirkungsvoller beim Hörer an, als man beim Anblick auf die verhältnismäßig einfache Partitur erwarten könnte.
Daniel Speer (born in Breslau, died in Göppingen) was a music teacher and school principal with positions in Württemberg, especially in Göppingen, where he was a member of the town band. The Sonata for trumpet and three trombones comes from the volume “Neugebachene Taffelschnitz” published in 1685. The sonata is composed in the original scoring for cornett with three trombones and was performed in town piper circles at the time. Today the cornett is replaced by a trumpet, but the three trombone parts can also be played by horn, tenor trombone and bass trombone or tuba. From a musical point of view, Daniel Speer’s sonatas are very appealing and, when they are played, reach the listener much more effectively than one might expect from looking at the relatively simple score.
