Franz Krommer (tschechisch František Vincenc Kramář), geboren in Iglau, gestorben in Wien, war ein tschechisch-österreichischer Komponist. Nach Studien in Mähren und Wien hatte er verschiedene Stellen in Ungarn inne. 1810 kehrte er nach Wien zurück und wirkte hier als Musiker, Komponist und Musikpädagoge sowie als Ballettkapellmeister am Wiener Hoftheater. 1818 wurde er zum Hofkomponisten und zugleich zum k. k. Kammer-Capellmeister berufen. Für sein erfolgreiches Wirken erhielt Krommer zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Er starb als angesehener, geachteter Künstler und Ehrenmitglied mehrerer musikalischer Gesellschaften.
Ignaz Josef Pleyel (1857-1831) war ein österreichisch-französischer Komponist und Klavierfabrikant. Pleyel war Schüler von Joseph Haydn und Johann B. Vanhal. Während der Lehrzeit bei Haydn, mit dem ihn von da an eine enge Freundschaft verband, komponierte er viele Werke, vermutlich auch jenes Thema, das Krommer für seine Variationen heranzog. Pleyel übersiedelte 1783 nach Straßburg, nahm die französische Staatsbürgerschaft an und wurde 1789 Domkapellmeister. Ab 1795 lebte er in Paris, wo er eine Musikalienhandlung und 1807 die Klavierfabrik Pleyel gründete.
Franz Krommer (Czech František Vincenc Kramář), born in Iglau, died in Vienna, was a Czech-Austrian composer. After studying in Moravia and Vienna, he held various positions in Hungary. In 1810 he returned to Vienna and worked here as a musician, composer and music teacher as well as ballet conductor at the Vienna Court Theater. In 1818 he became court composer and at the same time k. k. Chamber Kapellmeister appointed. Krommer has received numerous awards for his successful work. He died a respected artist and honorary member of several musical societies.
Ignaz Josef Pleyel (1857-1831) was an Austro-French composer and piano manufacturer. Pleyel was a student of Joseph Haydn and Johann B. Vanhal. During his apprenticeship with Haydn, with whom he became a close friend from then on, he composed many works, probably including the theme that Krommer used for his variations. Pleyel moved to Strasbourg in 1783, took French citizenship and became cathedral conductor in 1789. From 1795 he lived in Paris, where he founded a music shop and in 1807 the Pleyel piano factory.
