Der Kurort Bad Vöslau ist zwar nicht so mondän wie Baden, dennoch besuchen viele Wiener diese Kureinrichtungen am Ostabfall des Wienerwaldes. Als Johann Strauß nach dem Tod seines Vaters im Herbst 1849 alle sein Kräfte aufbot, um seine Stellung im Walzergeschäft gegen seine Konkurrenten zu behaupten, stand er mehrmals an den Rand der Erschöpfung. Ob nun Johann Strauß sich zur Erholung in Bad Vöslau aufgehalten oder dort am 16. August 1851, wie die lokale Tradition berichtet, eine Soiree im Gasthof „Zum Jägerhorn“ geleitet hat, ist für die Entstehungsgeschichte dieser Polka unwichtig. Fest steht, dass Johann Strauß beim Kirtag in Hernals am 27. August 1851 in Ungers Casino die Vöslauer Polka zum ersten Male – wie  er annoncieren ließ – aufgespielt hat. Mit ihren anmutigen Motiven ist die zierliche Polka eine prächtige musikalische Visitenkarte des auch heute noch geschätzten Kurortes Bad Vöslau südlich von Wien.

The spa town of Bad Vöslau is not as fashionable as Baden, but many Viennese still visit these spa facilities on the eastern slope of the Vienna Woods. When Johann Strauss, after the death of his father in the autumn of 1849, mustered all his strength to defend his position in the waltz business against his competitors, he was on the brink of exhaustion several times. Whether Johann Strauss was staying in Bad Vöslau to relax or whether he led a soiree there on August 16, 1851, as local tradition reports, in the “Zum Jägerhorn” inn is irrelevant to the history of the origin of this polka. What is certain is that Johann Strauss played the Vöslauer Polka for the first time at the Kirtag in Hernals on August 27, 1851 in Ungers Casino – as he announced. With its graceful motifs, the dainty polka is a magnificent musical calling card for the spa town of Bad Vöslau, south of Vienna, which is still popular today.
