Henry Purcell (1659-1695) Trauermarsch / Funeral March
Henry Purcell, geboren und gestorben in Westminster,war ein englischer Komponist des Barocks. Schon zu seinen Lebzeiten galt er als der bedeutendste englische Komponist und wurde daher mit dem Ehrentitel Orpheus britannicus gewürdigt. Purcell war der Sohn eines Mitglieds der um 1660 errichteten Chapel Royal. Er erhielt seine Ausbildung als Chorknabe in derselben Kapelle. 1676 übernahm er das Organistenamt an der Westminster Abbey.
Die anlässlich des Todes der Königin Maria II. von England im Jahre 1695 von Henry Purcell komponierte Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary (Trauermusik für die Königin Maria) besteht aus einem Trauermarsch, drei Funeral Sentences und einer Kanzone. Teile dieser Musik wurden auch anlässlich seines eigenen Todes im November des gleichen Jahres gespielt.
Henry Purcell, born and died in Westminster, was an English baroque composer. Even during his lifetime he was considered the most important English composer and was therefore honored with the honorary title Orpheus britannicus. Purcell was the son of a member of the Chapel Royal, built around 1660. He received his training as a choirboy in the same chapel. In 1676 he took over the post of organist at Westminster Abbey.
The Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary, composed by Henry Purcell on the occasion of the death of Queen Mary II of England in 1695, consists of a funeral march, three funeral sences and a canzone. Parts of this music were also played on the occasion of his own death in November of the same year.
