Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) WoO 28 Variationen über das Thema “Lá ci darem la mano” aus Don Giovanni / Variations on the Theme from Don Giovanni for three woodwind instruments
Die vorliegenden Variationen hat Beethoven für eine Besetzung von 2 Oboen und Englisch Horn geschrieben. Es ist aber ebenso reizend, wenn man das Werk mit Flöte, Oboe und Klarinette (oder Flöte mit 2 Klarinetten) besetz. Das Trio entstand in der frühen Wiener Zeit des Meisers (etwa 1795) und wurde am 23. Dezember 1797 im National Hoftheater zu Wien in einem Konzert für die Witwen und Waisen aufgeführt. Dass Beethoven seine Komposition für eine Veröffentlichung werthielt, zeigt der Umstand, dass er sie dem Verlag C. F. Peters in Leipzig zur Herausgabe anbot. Das anmutige und dankbare Werk ist der engbegrenzten Sololiteratur für drei Holzblasinstrumente sehr willkommen.
Beethoven wrote the present variations for an instrumentation of 2 oboes and cor anglais. But it is just as charming when the work is scored for flute, oboe and clarinet (or flute with 2 clarinets). The trio was composed in the early years of the master in Vienna (about 1795) and was performed on December 23, 1797 in the National Court Theater in Vienna in a concert for widows and orphans. That Beethoven considered his composition worth publishing is shown by the fact that he offered it to the publishing house C. F. Peters in Leipzig for publication. The graceful and rewarding work is very welcome in the limited solo literature for three woodwinds.
