Die Zauberflöte ist eine Oper von W. A. Mozart, die 1791 im Freihaustheater in Wien uraufgeführt wurde. Das Werk – das Libretto stammt von Emanuel Schikaneder – zählt zu den weltweit bekanntesten und am häufigsten inszenierten Opern. Die Musik ist auch vielen vertraut, die die Oper noch nie gesehen haben. Durch das umfangreich ausgeführte Kontrastprinzip verdeutlicht die Oper sehr gut den Zeitgeist der Wiener Klassik. Zunächst im bunt schillernden Gewand einer Zauberposse auftretend, wendet sie sich im Verlauf der Handlung zunehmend der Verkündigung freimaurerischer Ideale zu. Der zweite Akt der Oper wird mit dem Marsch der Priester eröffnet, bei dem Sarastro die Priester um sich versammelt.
The Magic Flute is an opera by W. A. Mozart, which was premiered in 1791 in the Freihaustheater in Vienna. The work – the libretto is by Emanuel Schikaneder – is one of the world’s most famous and most frequently staged operas. The music is also familiar to many who have never seen the opera. Thanks to the extensive contrast principle, the opera clearly illustrates the spirit of the time of Viennese classicism. First appearing in the colorful, shimmering robe of a magical posse, in the course of the plot she increasingly turns to the proclamation of Masonic ideals. The second act of the opera opens with the March of the Priests, during which Sarastro gathers the priests around him.
