Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) Im Krapfenwald’l, Polka op. 336 / In Krapfen’s Vienna Wood
Den Sommer 1869 verbrachte Johann Strauss in Russland. Die bei Promenaden in der dicht bewaldeten Gartenanlage von Pawlowsk gewonnenen Eindrücke inspirierten ihn zu einer Polka, die er dem Publikum von Vauxhall im August 1869 vorstellte. Die neue Polka „Im Pawlowsk- Walde“ erregte die Begeisterung der Zuhörer. Die 1870 im k.k. Volksgarten in der Kaiserstadt an der Donau aufgeführte Polka war nun unter dem Titel „Im Krapfenwald’l“ angekündigt. Der Name geht auf den Geheimen Kriegsrat Franz Joseph Krapf zurück, nach dem das Gasthaus „Krapfenwald’l“ auf dem Höhenrücken östlich des Cobenzl benannt war. Im Wienerwald ist der Kuckuck und das Vogelgezwitscher ebenso zu hören, wie in der Region an der Newa.
Johann Strauss spent the summer of 1869 in Russia. The impressions he gained on prome- nades in the densely wooded gardens of Pavlovsk inspired him to create a polka that he pre- sented to the Vauxhall audience in August 1869. The new polka “In the Pavlovsk Forest” aroused the enthusiasm of the audience. The 1870 in the k.k. Volksgarten in the imperial city on the Danube was now announced under the title “Im Krapfenwald’l”. The name goes back to the Privy War Councilor Franz Joseph Krapf, after whom the “Krapfenwald’l” inn on the ridge east of the Cobenzl was named. The cuckoo and the chirping of birds can be heard in the Vienna Woods as well as in the Neva region.
