Johann Strauss II 1825-1899 Bachus-Polka, op. 38
Bacchus, dem Gott des Weines, haben viele Komponisten in übermütigen Werken gehuldigt. Der Anlass für diese Komposition bot dem jungen Musikdirektor Strauss ein fröhlicher Ball im Fasching 1847 in den Sträußel-Sälen im Theater in der Josefstadt. Die fröhliche Stimmung der Polka wird mit der Gesangseinlage „Bachus, Bachus, tralala“ und „Der Bachus lebe hoch!“ erreicht.
Many composers have paid homage to Bacchus, the god of wine, in high-spirited works. The occa- sion for this composition offered the young music director Strauss a cheerful ball in Mardi Gras 1847 in the Sträußel halls in the theater in der Josefstadt. The cheerful mood of the polka is achieved with the vocal interludes “Bachus, Bachus, tralala” and “Der Bachus lebe hoch!”
