Eduard Strauss (1835-1916) Bahn frei! Polka schnell, op.45 / Train clear!, Polka fast
1837 fuhr der erst Eisenbahnzug in der k.k. Monarchie von Floridsdorf nach Deutsch Wagram. Ein neues Zeitalter hatte damit begonnen, die Eisenbahn wurde zu einem der Symbole für die technische Entwicklung des vorigen Jahrhunderts. Bald beflügelte das Dampfross die Phantasie der Künstler und namentlich der Musiker. Dass auch die Familie Strauß in den Bann der neuen Erfindung gezogen wurde, zeigte sich bei Vater Johann Strauss wie auch bei seinen Söhnen.
Aus dem Jahre 1869 stammt die Schnellpolka Bahn frei!, opus 45 von Eduard Strauß. Die Uraufführung fand am 17. Februar 1869 statt und zwar beim Ball der Beamten der k.k. privilegierten Nordbahn. Dem Comité dieses Balles widmete auch Eduard Strauß seine Komposition. Im Wiener Verlag Spina kam im April 1869 die Klavierausgabe heraus und im Herbst dieses Jahres folgte die Orchesterausgabe. „Bahn frei!“ ist bis heute bekannt und beliebt geblieben und spielte beim Jubiläum „150 Jahre Eisenbahn in Österreich“ eine besondere Rolle.
In 1837 the first railway train ran in the k.k. Monarchy from Floridsdorf to Deutsch Wagram. A new era had begun, the railroad became one of the symbols for the technical development of the previous century. Soon the steam horse fired the imagination of the artists and especially the musicians. The fact that the Strauss family was also drawn under the spell of the new invention was evident from father Johann Strauss as well as from his sons. The Polka fast “Train clear!”, opus 45 by Eduard Strauss, dates from 1869. The premiere took place on February 17, 1869 at the official ball of the k.k. privileged northern runway. Eduard Strauss also dedicated his composition to the committee of this ball. The Viennese publishing house Spina published the piano edition in April 1869 and the orchestral edition followed in the autumn of that year. “Train clear!” is known and loved to this day and played a special role in the “150 Years of Railways in Austria” anniversary.
