Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) Banditen-Galopp / Bandit Gallop, op.378
Der Banditen-Galopp wurde von Johann Strauss nach Motiven der Operette Prinz Methusalem zusammengestellt. Der Titelname geht auf die Operette zurück, wo ein Bandit sein Unwesen treibt. Die Uraufführung der Polka erfolgte am 18. März 1877 eher zufällig in der Stadt Baden-Baden. Johann Strauss kam auf der Rückreise von einem Engagement in Paris durch diese Stadt. Einige Jahre zuvor hatte er schon das dortige Kurorchester als Gast dirigiert. Daher lud man ihn zu einem neuerlichen Dirigat ein, wobei er auch diese spritzige Polka erstmals aufführte.
The Bandit Galop was composed by Johann Strauss based on motifs from the operetta Prince Methuselah. The title derives from the operetta, in which a bandit wreaks havoc. The polka premiered quite by chance on March 18, 1877, in the city of Baden-Baden. Johann Strauss was passing through the city on his way back from an engagement in Paris. Several years earlier, he had already guest-conducted the spa orchestra there. Therefore, he was invited to conduct again, where he also performed this lively polka for the first time.
