Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) Divertimento B-Dur Hob II:46 with Chorale St. Antoni
Einen bedeutenden Platz im Gesamtoeuvre Joseph Haydns nehmen seine Divertimenti ein. Um solche Werke handelt es sich auch bei Haydns sogenannten „Sechs Feldparthien“ Hob.II:41-46, die ausschließlich für Bläser konzipiert sind. Das hier vorliegende Divertimento B-dur, Hob.II:46 ist viersätzig und stellt zwischen zwei raschen Ecksätzen ein langsames Stück und ein Menuett. Der Sonatensatzform verpflichtet ist der erste Satz, ein munteres Gebilde von hoher Prägnanz. Den zweiten Satz bildet eine Andante quasi Allegretto, dessen Thema der allgemein bekannte Chorale St. Antoni ist, der Brahms zu seinen Haydn Variationen inspirierte. Nach dem tänzerischen dritten Satz (Menuett mit Trio) folgt als Finale ein äußerst durchsichtiges Rondo-Finale mit mitreißendem Schwung.
His Divertimenti occupy an important place in Joseph Haydn’s overall oeuvre. Haydn’s so-called “Six Field Parts” Hob.II:41-46, which are designed exclusively for wind instruments, are also works of this kind. This Divertimento in B flat major, Hob.II:46 has four movements and places a slow piece and a minuet between two rapid outer movements. The first movement is committed to the sonata form, a lively structure of high conciseness. The second movement is an Andante quasi Al- legretto, whose theme is the well-known Chorale St. Antoni, which inspired Brahms to his Haydn Variations. After the dance-like third movement (minuet with trio), the finale is an extremely trans- parent rondo finale with rousing momentum.
