Josef Strauss (1827-1870) Laxenburger Polka, op.60
Im August 1858 erwartete Kaiserin Elisabeth ihr drittes Kind und zog sich bereits Ende Juli in das Schloss Laxenburg zurück und blieb dort bis zum Tag der Niederkunft. Die Neugier der Bevölkerung benützte Josef Strauss und komponierte seine originelle „Laxenburger-Polka“. Als er das Werk am 30. August 1858 anlässlich des Hernalser Kirchtages zum ersten Mal vortrug, hatte die Kaiserin schon am 21. August einen Sohn zur Welt gebracht, den Thronfolger, der den Namen Rudolf erhielt. Die pikante Polka blieb lange Zeit hindurch im Repertoire der Strauss-Kapelle, die prachtvolle Parkanlage in Laxenburg wird nach wie vor gerne besucht.
In August 1858, Empress Elisabeth was expecting her third child and at the end of July withdrew to Laxenburg Castle and stayed there until the day of the birth. Josef Strauss took advantage of the curiosity of the population and composed his original „Laxenburger Polka”. When he presented the work for the first time on August 30th, 1858 on the occasion of the Hernalser church day, the Empress had already given birth to a son on August 21st, the heir to the throne, who was given the name Rudolf. The spicy polka remained in the Strauss orchestra’s repertoire for a long time, and the magnificent park in Laxenburg is still popular with visitors.
