Diesen Walzer, eines der populärsten Werke von Josef Strauss, hat der Komponist im Jahre 1869 für den Ball der Studierenden an den Hochschulen Wiens geschrieben. In idealer Weise huldigt er dem Lebensgefühl der Jugend. Überschwang ist darin ebenso zu finden wie unbeschwerte Fröhlichkeit, graziöse Anmut Wechsel mit stürmischen Jubel und über allem liegt ein strahlender Optimismus. Mit dieser sorglosen Heiterkeit hat Josef Strauss Abschied von seiner Jugend genommen, womöglich hat er geahnt, dass die Tage seines Lebens in nicht allzu ferner Zeit zu Ende sein würden.
The composer wrote this waltz, one of the most popular works by Josef Strauss, in 1869 for the students’ ball at the universities of Vienna. Ideally, it pays homage to the youth’s attitude towards life. Exuberance can be found in it as well as carefree happiness, graceful changes of grace with stormy cheers and above everything there is a radiant optimism. Josef Strauss said goodbye to his youth with this carefree serenity; he may have suspected that the days of his life would be over in the not too distant future.
