Josef Strauss (1827-1870) Plappermäulchen / Chatterbox, Polka fast, op. 245 (Musikalischer Scherz / Musical Joke)
Es gibt Kinder, die vom ersten Augenaufschlag am Morgen bis zum Hinübersinken in den Schlaf unermüdlich plaudern. Jene Musiker, die das Werk (zunächst „Die Plaudertasche“ genannt) in der „Neuen Welt“ in Hietzing 1868 uraufführten, kannten diese Plaudertasche recht gut. Es handelte sich um das Töchterchen des Kapellmeisters, Josef Strauss. Will man diese Unermüdlichkeit in Musik ausdrücken, kommt ganz selbstverständlich einer Art Perpetuum mobile zustande. Das effektvoll Werk wurde eher selten aufgeführt, da es nur von virtuosen Musikern zur vollen Geltung gebracht werden konnte. Nachdem der Verlag Spina den musikalischen Scherz herausbrachte und die Wiener Philharmoniker das Werk spielten, wurde das Plappermäulchen überall bekannt.
There are children who chat tirelessly from the moment they first open their eyes in the morning until they drift off to sleep. The musicians who premiered the work (initially called “The Plaudertasche”) in the “Neue Welt” in Hietzing in 1868 knew this Chatterbox very well. It was the daughter of the conductor, Josef Strauss. If you want to express this tirelessness in music, a kind of perpetuum mobile comes about as a matter of course. The effective work was rarely performed, as it could only be brought to its full advantage by virtuoso musicians. After the Spina publishing house brought out the musical joke and the Vienna Philharmonic played the work, the Chatterbox became known everywhere.
