Das Phantom der Oper ist ein Musical mit Musik von Andrew Lloyd Webber, basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Gaston Leroux und erzählt die tragische Geschichte der schönen Sopranistin Christine Daaé, die zur Obsession eines mysteriösen, aber entstellten musikalischen Genies wird, das im unterirdischen Labyrinth unter der Pariser Oper lebt. Das Musical wurde 1986 im Londoner West End und 1988 am Broadway in New York uraufgeführt. Eine Verfilmung wurde 2004 veröffentlicht. Das Phantom der Oper war die am längsten laufende Show in der Geschichte des Broadway und feierte am 2012 seine 10.000. Aufführung. Das hier arrangierte Lied erklingt mehrmals im Musical. Dabei wird Christine vom Phantom mit einem Boot zu seinem Versteck unter der Oper geleitet. Am Ende des Liedes singt Christine (hier der erste Trompeter) ihre höchste Note in der Aufführung.

The Phantom of the Opera is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux and tells the tragic story of the beautiful soprano Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious but disfigured musical genius who lives in the underground labyrinth beneath the Paris Opera. The musical premiered in London’s West End in 1986 and on Broadway in New York in 1988. A film adaptation was released in 2004. The Phantom of the Opera was the longest-running show in Broadway history and celebrated its 10,000th performance in 2012. The song arranged here is heard several times in the musical. Christine is led by the Phantom in a boat to his hiding place under the opera. At the end of the song, Christine (here the first trumpeter) sings her highest note in the performance.
