Inno e Marcia Pontificale (Päpstliche Hymne und Marsch) wurde im Jahr 1950 – aus Anlass des Heiligen Jahres – zur Nationalhymne der Vatikanstadt erhoben. Allerdings ist sie keine Nationalhymne im eigentlichen Sinne, sondern insbesondere eher als Hymne auf den Souverän – im Staat der Vatikanstadt der Papst – anzusehen. Es handelt sich also nicht um eine Hymne für das Land, sondern wie Königshymnen. Die Melodie wurde von Charles Gounod komponiert. Hier wurde die Vatican-Hymne erstmals für Blechbläser-Quintett gesetzt.
Inno e Marcia Pontificale (Papal Hymn and March) was declared the national anthem of Vatican City in 1950 – on the occasion of the Holy Year. However, it is not a national anthem in the true sense of the word, but rather a hymn to the sovereign – in the Vatican City State, the Pope. It is therefore not an anthem for the country, but rather like a royal anthem. The melody was composed by Charles Gounod. Here, the Vatican anthem was arranged for brass quintet for the first time.
