Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) Zigeunerbaron-Quadrille, op. 422 Gipsy Baron Quadrille [Pantalon, Été, Poule, Trénis, Pastourrelle, Finale]
Die Zigeunerbaron-Quadrille wurde am 28. Januar 1886 in der Wiener Hofburg erstmals aufgeführt. Das Werk wurde nach Motiven der im Jahr 1885 uraufgeführten Operette Der Zigeunerbaron zusammengestellt. Damit reiht es sich in eine Reihe von Kompositionen (u.a. dem Schatzwalzer, dem Einzugsmarsch) ein, die alle Themen aus dieser Operette aufgreifen. In diesem Falle wurden viele der bekanntesten Themen der Operette miteinander verbunden. Dabei entstand ein kleines Operetten Potpourri. Nach der Uraufführung in der Wiener Hofburg anlässlich eines Hofballs wurde die Quadrille beim Faschingsball der Journalistenvereinigung Concordia am 2. März 1886 unter der Leitung von Eduard Strauss gespielt. Dieser Vereinigung wurde das Werk auch gewidmet.
The Gypsy Baron Quadrille was first performed on January 28, 1886, at the Vienna Hofburg. The work was compiled based on motifs from the operetta The Gypsy Baron, which premiered in 1885. It thus joins a series of compositions (including the Treasure Waltz and the Entry March) that take up all the themes from this operetta. In this case, many of the operetta’s best-known themes were combined, resulting in a small operetta potpourri. Following its premiere at the Vienna Hofburg at a court ball, the quadrille was performed at the carnival ball of the Concordia Journalists’ Association on March 2, 1886, under the direction of Eduard Strauss. The work was also dedicated to this association.
